【タイトル】On the origin(s) of the atmosphere and the oceans

【概要】
Understanding the origin and evolution of life-bearing volatile elements (water, carbon, nitrogen) on Earth is a fruitful and debated area of research. Stable isotope ratios measured in meteorites suggest volatiles where primarily sourced by planetary bodies from the inner solar system. Two sample return missions, Hayabusa2 (JAXA) and OSIRIS-REx (NASA) delivered pristine samples from two volatile-rich asteroids, Ryugu and Bennu, respectively. Measurements by the Rosetta probe (European Space Agency) on the coma of Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko indicate that comets also contributed volatiles to the surface of our planet. Together with recent high-precision analysis of noble gases from the ancient atmosphere, I shall discuss the sources of terrestrial volatiles and the chronology of their delivery.
