1.Assessing the risk of climate change and alien invasion species using species distribution models

Zhixin Zhang(Graduate School of Marine Science and Technology, Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology)

Climate change and alien invasive species represent two of the direct drivers of global biodiversity loss, which can adversely influence species in many different mechanisms. In order to design effective management strategies to mitigate impacts of the two treats, we should have a better understanding of species potential distribution. In this regard, species distribution model (SDM) has been regarded as an effective tool to predict species potential geographical distribution. Here, I introduce the important elements in SDM and explain applications of SDMs in climate change and alien invasive species. Finally, I summarize the do’s and don’ts when developing SDMs.
