要旨：水田土壌の窒素肥沃度維持に重要な窒素供給経路は窒素固定であり、古くから研究対象とされてきた。本発表では、これまで見落とされてきた鉄還元菌窒素固定の発見、鉄還元菌の窒素固定能の実証、および水田において鉄還元菌窒素固定活性を高めた環境保全型の水稲栽培技術の開発についての我々の研究事例を紹介する。
