1.Viral toxicity using clinical study in Beni-Suef University as PhD degree, and evaluation of polluted sea water in the Red Sea on the osteoclasts and osteoblasts of goldfish in Noto Marine Laboratory

I have investigated clinical study in Beni-Suef University. Namely, our study indicated that chronic HCV infection causes alteration of liver function, kidney function, viral load, lipid profile, cardiovascular risk factors and hematological parameters. Moreover, administration of both N. sativa and/or Z. officinale ethanolic extracts in addition to kefir to chronic HCV patients were safe, tolerable, decreased viral load and improved clinical conditions. So, it is recommended to use mixtures of natural remedies to increase its synergetic effects against HCV and decrease of its side effects.

In this visit in Noto Marine Laboratory, I am studying regarding environmental science with fish scales. To understand sea water pollution in Egypt, we examined the effects of polluted seawater from Red Sea on osteoclastic and osteoblastic activities using fish scale in vitro bioassay. As a result, osteoclastic activity was significantly suppressed by the polluted seawater samples diluted at least 500 times; in contrast, osteoblastic activity did not show any change. This response is very similar to the response of Cd and Hg. As heavy metal contamination of the Suez Gulf site has been reported, there is a high possibility that heavy metals are contained in the seawater of Red Sea.

 

2.Long-term aerosol observations in NOTO Ground-based Research Observatory (NOTOGRO)

NOTO Ground-based Research Observatory (NOTOGRO) is a research infrastructure contributing to long-term observations of atmospheric aerosols. Among others, their monitoring is relevant for two reasons: 1) detecting regional and long-range transport of atmospheric pollutants -ex. the ones originated in China- ; 2) characterising their possible impact on climate and clouds.
Cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) number concentrations, particle number size distributions and chemical composition are among the atmospheric parameters that are recorded in NOTOGRO. During the presentation, I will introduce myself and how my skills and personal bakground will contribute to the analysis and dissemination of the above mentioned parameters collected at Notogro.

 

3.PEI/HAコーティングフィルターによる海水中銅の除去

金沢大学 環日本海域環境研究センター 博士研究員 岩井久典

ドック周辺では海水の銅汚染が危惧されるが、銅の効果的な除去は困難である。海水中の銅の除去手法の一案として、カチオンポリマーとフミン酸による濾紙の機能化について紹介する。本手法は環境中PAHsの挙動解析へも利用できると考えており、現在検討中の応用例も併せて紹介したい。
