Research content

Goals of the scientific field of Ecology and Conservation are to conserve biodiversity and to explore ways to coexist with wildlife through sustainable human activities. My main interests is ecology and conservation of aquatic systems, although some lab members work on terrestrial systems. My lab’s current study themes include “ecological restoration of paddy-dominated landscapes”, ” invasion risk assessment of nonnative species”, and “conservation of threatened species”. Noto Peninsula, one of the Globally-Important Agricultural Heritage Systems, is among the core study fields. As a part of a collaboration project with universities, local governments, and Japan Agricultural Cooperatives (JA), we are currently developing sustainable wildlife-friendly rice farming practices using biodiversity resources of Satoyama.
