Outline of research

Geochemical cycles within the Sea of Japan: Implications from distributions of multi-radionuclides
Various radionuclides in seawater have been used as powerful tracers to investigate geochemical cycles in marine environments.
Low-background gamma spectrometry combined with minimal radiochemical processing enables the determination of low levels of 7Be, 134Cs, 137Cs, 226Ra, 228Ra, 228Th, and 234Th using only 20-60 L water samples.
By employing this method, we conduct fine-resolution observations of spatial and seasonal variations in these radionuclides in the Sea of Japan (and neighboring East China Sea and Okhotsk Sea), and assess the circulation patterns of water masses and particles.
