An international research team including Dr. Atsushi Matsuki (Division of Atmospheric Environmental Studies) has succeeded in detecting lightning discharge and coincident termination of gamma ray glow from thunderclouds that developed along Japan Sea in winter. The results will provide clues to understand the electron-acceleration mechanisms of gamma ray glows in thunderstorms.
